environmental dental

In Australia, over 30 million toothbrushes are used and disposed each year, amounting to approximately 1000 tonnes of landfill each year, so says the blurb. If this is correct, thats a lotta toothbrushes and thats just us! A young Aussie ex air force dentist has started producing a 100% biodegradable bamboo toothbrush, both bristle and handle which goes a step toward eliminating such waste. The environmental toothbrush tried to get made in Australia but a Chinese bamboo kitchen utensil company was the only company she could source that was willing and able to produce. 12 will cost you $33 dollars including postage and handling and international orders are welcomed. That price is pretty good i reckon considering top end brushes retail at around $6. I put my order in today. Its the first time the dental mag that I get each month with my dental organisation membership has come in useful!

Hey Kelly,

will you let me know what they are like when you get them. If you give it the thumbs up we will do the switch. Wonder if they will ever make electric heads!!!!

Wow,

That sounds awesome. I would love to have that option. Please report back on them once your crew has given them a good bashing.

Kind Regards
Belinda

Ditto here as well, they work out at $2.75 each which is actually very cheap, a better price than most stupormarket ones.

Very timely post! Thank you. I was wondering where to get a plastic-free toothbrush from (without pig's bristles).
Just ordered a box. :)

thanks just the same- I'm trying not to buy anything from China these days. There's a local store here that sells a toothbrush that you can send back into the company that collects them and recycles them into park benches. I think that biodegradable is a better way to go. I'll have to think about this some more. I hate my toothbrush. I'm using a tooth soap though, instead of toothpaste, though. Does that count? It comes in a glass jar and is made of natural soap ingredients and french clay. And yes, it took some serious getting used to.

Do you think using these will make up for my failure with the homemade deodorant? Either way, I'm going to give them a try. Thank you. (And this just in time for Christmas!)

I have purchased, and will have to ask the family to report. The kid may not go for it what with having a tiny mouth still, but me and the Bloke should give them a good run.

Thanks for mentioning them. Placcy toothbrushes are one of those things I've been meaning to do something about for ages.

sarah- for sure, an update will be written, you may be waiting a whil for wooden electric heads! lol

belinda- i thought so too! will do the bashing and write up.

annuska- see above!

gave- see above above!

pip- ... thanks for the item breakdown, usefl to have.

veggie- thats what I said the bloke! no pigs bristles coming near my mouth! onya!

paula- hi, welcome!. i agree, bio is better and i usually avoid chinese/any other products where a local alternative is available. Toothsoap if it comes in gglass is great, personally i'd be worried about missing out on the flouride as thats what pretty much prevents decay (remineralises the tooth enamel).

kale- nup! hehe. what you need is 'bulk' roll on so big you need someone else to apply it! onya too!

greenfumb- onya too too! wow, a bi purcase day fro mtaurus rising!

jo- ditto above! how cool! bags are in last phase and hoping for an early new year roll out! You will definitely know when it happens!

ICG- so pleased it was useful! theyre a pain and like vege the ones i had found were pig related! looking forward to everyones feedback!
