giveaway madness, like reefer madness but better (would taurus rising readers please stand up)

With the horrific events of the last few days Ive been a little down, depressed even. Im a little surprised at just how the tragic losses have affected me. So in the spirit of celebrating life and the unbelievable generosity of the Australian public; 10 31 millions bucks in just 23 days (and the number rising by the hour) from a country with a population of just 21 million, I want to give something too, beyond the fires, so Im having my first ever give away. Of what?...well of that Im not sure, i thought id leave it up to you! you have a choice of...

1) 2 lovingly knitted organic washcloths, made just for you!

2) A bottle of homemade, Gold medal winning, organic quince or plum wine; or verjus (Aussies only i think, but if you have your heart set on it i can investigate further for you the legalities of sending unknown proof alcohol O/S).

3) A pre loved book from my top 10 collection - probably Four Fires by Bryce Courtney (a truly magnificent Aussie epic, his only book I've ever liked)

4) Peter Bennets 'Organic Gardening' book for Australia and New Zealand or Barbara Kingsolver "Animal, Vegetable. Miracle'.

5) Artwork by Moi- potluck, but i guarantee it should be interesting and let me know 2 of your favourite things.

6) A collection of heirloom seeds, all still very viable (<12 mths old); cucumber, lettuce mix, tomato mix (about 6 varietals), zucchini, beans, peas, carrots, beetroots, rocket, corn, coriander, rainbow chard, parsnip, cabbage, kale and probably a few more.

7) An AU$30 donation to a charity of your choice made out in your name, receipt provided.

8) Loca vore lunch made by me at my place (or at your place if Im passing)

All you have to do is just tell me which one you're interested in and WHY! and YES, this is also a really transparent way to get to know the lurkers amongst you. I want to know who you are and those i know, i want to say thanks for reading! So, get spirited, get brave, post me, tell me what you want and i will draw one, maybe two, winners at random (im a statistician so trust me). I will let you know the winner in 7 days time. Thats it. Post away lovely blog readers.

Washcloths. Because I've always meant to make some but I never get 'round to it.

I love the idea of washcloths. I can't knit--or rather, I have never learned yet!

I am one of the lurkers here. Very generous giveaways. i would love the seeds. I have become serious about growing my own veges in the last year and I know they will be producing lots of veges for my family and neighbours.

Washcloths or seeds - I can't knit
and we live in the same climactic
zone (sort of!).

You know I visit you! And I wish you well.

Connecting is always a great idea, for whatever the reason.

I'm interested in artwork. Pretty please. You know what I like - images of birth, women, lighthouses, love, hands, keys, locks...any of these symbols are good for me. Fave colours reds, purples, deep pinks, black, white.

And now I'd better ehad off and start my de-stash to get my last giveaway on the way to its winner (who I hope is safe in northern Victoria)

But, but, but... How can I decide when they're all so good! I suppose you aren't going to be passing by Newcastle any time soon? No? Bugger. Maybe when you're sailing around the world you can stop in at our little port (Simon can hang a few protest flags on the coal ships while he's here) and whip me up something on your boat with our fabbo local seafood?

Failing that, you can be safe in the knowledge that any wine (let alone an award-winning wine) would be gratefully received and appreciatively sipped. Why? Well, we need some motivation to get *our* pizza oven built ;-)

P.S. My word verification is "dizaster"...

Are non-lurkers allowed, too?

Me? Locavore lunch at your place. Because I could then investigate your knitted wash cloths and you may even show me how they are knitted. (Or would I have to join your knitting group?) Might then zip off to the wine cellar to ogle your prize-winning booze, then followed by a bit of seed swapping and gawking at your books and art work. The donation of my choice will be done today, so don't worry about that.

That should cover it all, I'd think.

Oh...and I have NEVER EVER won anything in my entire life. As far as I can remember. Unless you count that strange fund raiser a few years ago where I got a box of home-made greeting cards and pink vase for my tombola tickets.

how very exciting! and what a wonderful idea...honouring generosity at a time when acts of generosity and kindness are the bits of brightness in the face of such overwhelming tragedy..
i would love the wine and the lunch but they're not happening with us in different hemispheres..i already own AVM, and have quite the collection of my own heirloom seeds...which leaves the washcloths, the preloved book and the artwork, all of which i would love...but i think my number one pick would be the artwork as it's something that i would look at every day.i would totally pay the shipping too..and veggie gnome, i've never won anything ever either....which is sad considering that i'm 40 years old...

de-lurking you say....

It has been a very confronting week hasn't it?

I would love to vie with Veggie Gnome for the Locavore Lunch so I can sample some of the delicious food your so often taunt us with. :)

Your blog is one of only two that I've read from beginning to ever expanding end (the other being the lovely elburros') and it would be wonderful to meet your inspiring self in person. I'm sure you've got all sorts of sustainable living inspiration that I'm missing out on by lurking behind my computer screen!

Failing the Locavore Lunch the Wine sounds divine and another Organic Gardening book would also come in handy. Its always good to hedge ones bets!

Another non-lurker! Pick me!

I would love the wine, especially because it is "award winning". I don't think I have drunk one of those. You are too generous Kel.

I'm glad you are safe from the fires and brightening your day with this grand giveaway. My pick is lunch at my place the next time you are passing!

Yep, Im a non lurker!
You know Kel, given the subject of my own post today, I would say I would accept anything that you would enjoy giving me with joy and no expectations. (he he he)

(Secretly, though I would love you lot to come to TASSIE and cook us some of our local food!!!)

I have been a lurker, though I may have commented once or twice. I am still so moved about you and simon's birth stories, I have linked to you on my recent post about the power of stories.

Anyway I would love a pre-loved book. I too, am doing my PhD and would love to read something non-acadmic for some respite.

I too am so proud of the Australian generosity in response to the bushfire tragedy.

Hi Katrine...just in case you read these comments again...just wanted to say thanks for reading and that I'm looking forward to reading yours when you get it going..

this was a lovely idea Kel...and just look at the spiderweb of connections that you've facilitated!

yikes. i have to say that i have been a bit overwhelmed with the responses and so havent responded individually in fear of sounding flippant or trite in my appreciation, so i opted for the general, follow up post. Lets just say Im very happy. Thanks everyone.

Well, I decided to participate as well. I would LOVE to taste something out of that wood oven (or from the stove, that is fine too, BUT the wood oven...yum!!) OR I would also LOVE the seeds. We have had little luck with our veggie garden attempts, but now have the rain water tank in and we are seriously considering another go.

trying again (my comment wouldn't post).

While I'd love your artwork or lunch, as both would let me know you better - although lunch might be tough because there aree countries and oceans between us, the reality is $30 can save a life or significantly improve on, so that would be it, hands down!!

What a cool giveaway, Kel!

I wish I could come eat at your place. Maybe one day?

I'm going with the donation. I think that is such a lovely idea.

You are so generous Kel. I'm a little behind with my comments but here goes.....
I have plenty of knitted washcloths already, and also plenty of seeds. I see from your next post that you donated the $30 to Vic Animal Rescue, so that leaves four no, five things left to pick from, I have already read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (thoroughly enjoyed it, sent a copy to my brother) but the Organic Gardening book would be useful for me, and I love reading so any book would make me really happy. The artwork sounds interesting (favourite colour blue) as does the locavore lunch (because I love anything to do with food) and the wine or verjus would be good too. But I'm happy to take potluck, whatever you decide to give I would be happy to receive.
take care
Pip

Hello Kel, I'm Alex and I came across your blog via Towards Sustainability I think. I'm not a lurker because I only found it today! Really enjoy your posts and style of writing and I look forward to reading more. Any of your giveaways would be lovely although a piece of artwork would be a joy and a privilege to have. Also the dishcloths sound fabulous! If I am 'the one' then I'm happy for you to choose. Keep up the great blogging, Alex. xxx

Hello, how are you?
