Sainte Maure Poitou Affiné

its not local.
I digressed.
Im off carbs and wheat and a I needed a treat.
Nothing I DO, nothing I MAKE HAS NO CARBS. I'm a carbaholic, hence the break; need to reset the system. So, I'm looking for treats which can sustain me. I have not found a remotely close local alternative to these lovely wheels of French goat.

This absoloutely stunning log of Sainte Maure Poitou Affiné was our theme around which a simple dinner of green leaves and heirloom tomatoes was made. I sliced the log, crumbed it with fresh thyme and rosemary and gently sauteed top and bottom in a pan to warm their insides and until the milk sugars caramelised. It then was very reverentially placed atop the green nest and sprinkled with some local Joseph  'la casetta' aged vinegar, the likes of which deserve its own post

Oh I feel for you, I too am a carbaholic - its the Irish blood I'm sure. I can't go without but I have cut right down - my treat is Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken. Absolutely delicious and healthy as hell.

vietnamese is so fresh and flavoursome! - cracked taday and indulged in a spelt cracker - heaven! but I have lost kilos in a week as a result!

i frequently invoke the immortal words of Joan Collins
"a little of what you fancy does you good"

It looks beautiful. I agree, sometimes a break is needed from the local. It's the overall that counts not the occasional yummy indiscretion.

Oh and good luck on the low carb. I could not survive. Mr Bee is also doing low carb - but only for dinner.

india- i seem to struggle with the little part...but this cheese seemed big! sooo good, especially after such a hiatus.

bee-its actually been easier than i anticipated. Now the thought of a bowl of pasta at night and not grilled veg or salad makes me a little queasy, but talk to me in three months! lol

arg (with drool on keyboard). Looks amazing. I too could do with some sort of approach to food. Have hit the breastfeeding point where you go from scrawny and unfit to flabby and unfit. Hmm. sad. I like toast thought and all this jam making does me damage in such a delicious way! good luck - i will ponder on joining you!
